Red Phoenix紅鸞
A symbolic star read from the year branch, traditionally associated with romantic and marital timing markers rather than a scheduled wedding.
01概覽
Red Phoenix (紅鸞, Hóng Luán) is one of the older romance-and-marriage symbolic stars, almost always discussed together with its paired star, Heavenly Joy (天喜, Tiān Xǐ). Traditionally the pair marks years and placements associated with romantic or marital fortune — the kind of auspicious relationship timing popular almanacs still print for the current year. Where Peach Blossom speaks to charm and attraction as a general quality, Red Phoenix and Heavenly Joy speak more specifically to relationship-fortune timing.
The two stars are structurally linked: Red Phoenix and Heavenly Joy sit at opposite points on a fixed twelve-branch rotation keyed to the year branch, so wherever one falls, the other is found at the directly opposing branch. In practice they are read as a pair more often than either is read alone.
02取法
The lookup runs from the year branch through a fixed, one-to-one rotation across the twelve earthly branches, assigning each year branch its own Red Phoenix branch; Heavenly Joy then falls at the branch in a six-clash (六沖) relationship to it — directly opposite on the branch cycle. This site's confidence in the exact twelve-line rotation table is not strong enough to reproduce it here as a settled grid, so this entry describes the mechanism — a fixed rotation with an opposing pair — rather than printing the literal branch-by-branch table.
Beyond the natal placement, Red Phoenix and Heavenly Joy are also read as transiting markers: practitioners check which branch a given year, month, or luck pillar activates and note whether it lands on either star, treating that as a traditional signal for relationship-related timing during that period rather than only as a fixed feature of the birth chart.
03各派分歧之處
Texts disagree on which of the two stars corresponds to a first romance versus a more settled, marriage-track relationship — some read Red Phoenix as the earlier, more youthful signal and Heavenly Joy as the later one, others reverse the assignment. There is a related disagreement about emphasis: some schools treat the natal placement as the primary reading and transiting activations as secondary confirmation, while others focus almost entirely on transiting activations — checking which year or luck pillar currently touches either star — as the more practically useful application for marriage-timing questions.
04我們不做的宣稱
Almanac culture has pushed this pairing further than the tradition itself claims, into a specific promise that a marked year is a scheduled marriage date. That overstates what a fixed rotation and its transiting activations can honestly support. Read at its actual scope, Red Phoenix and Heavenly Joy mark a traditional register of relationship-fortune emphasis at certain branches and certain years, not a scheduled outcome, and neither star is something this site's calculator computes or outputs.
