Direct Wealth (正財)

Direct Wealth (正財, Zhèng Cái) is the steady half of the Wealth pair — the element your Day Master (日主, the day-stem that stands for the self) controls, in the opposite polarity, which makes the relationship firm, committed, and dependable. Where Indirect Wealth (偏財, the Venturer) treats money as opportunity in motion, Direct Wealth treats it as something earned and kept. In our archetype framing we call it the Provider.

Charts weighted toward Direct Wealth tend to produce diligence, frugality, and a careful relationship to resources: income that comes from doing the work properly, savings built slowly, a wariness of shortcuts. This is the salaried, accountable face of money — security through reliability rather than through the bold stroke. The Provider's instinct is to build a floor and stand on it.

In classical readings, Direct Wealth can also describe the spouse layer, especially for male charts — but in this glossary we treat that as an orientation toward commitment, provision, and material reliability, not a prediction of a specific partner. Read structurally, it describes a loyal, building relationship to what you take responsibility for — money first, and by extension the people and obligations you bind yourself to — never a forecast about who, whether, or when. It is the most grounded of the money gods, and it names a tendency, not a destiny.

As with all Wealth, the Day Master must be strong enough to hold it. A strong Day Master with Direct Wealth reads as a reliable provider — careful, productive, building security that lasts. A weak Day Master with heavy Direct Wealth shows 財多身弱, 'much Wealth, weak self': the burden of resources or responsibilities a thin self struggles to carry, security that feels like weight. The diligence is constant; whether it steadies or strains depends on the strength behind it.

By pillar, the emphasis moves. In the year or month pillar, Direct Wealth often colours your working relationship to money and the structures that pay you — a sober, earned approach to resources. In the day or hour pillar it sits closer to private life and partnership, where the same loyalty and care show up in how you hold a household and a commitment. Placement marks where the steadiness concentrates, not a fixed outcome.

Direct Wealth's most respected partnership is with Direct Officer (正官, the Magistrate): the 財官 pattern, where earned resources underwrite legitimate standing — the classic image of solid, reputable success, money and status reinforcing each other. It is also fed by Output: 食傷生財, talent converted into steady income.

Its hazard, like its twin's, is the Self group: 比劫奪財, where Friend (比肩, the Ally) and Rob Wealth (劫財, the Rival) compete for the same Wealth — though Direct Wealth, being firmer, resists the pull better than Indirect Wealth does. Read alongside its twin, Indirect Wealth (偏財, the Venturer), the Wealth pair shows what polarity does to money — steady earning against mobile opportunity.
