Conceived (胎)
the new seed — qi reconceived in the dark, unseen potential
- Position in cycle:
- 11 / 12
- Qi state:
- nascent, unseen potential
The eleventh stage — an element's qi reconceived: a new seed forming, unseen.
Overview
Conceived (胎, Tāi) is the eleventh of the Twelve Life Stages, and it describes the very first return of an element's qi — not a pregnancy or a person. Just past Void's zero, the element is reconceived: a new seed forming in the dark, present only as potential, not yet anything that can act.
As an energy state, Conceived is the faint first stirring of renewal — the cycle has turned, and the element exists again, but only in the most latent form. It is weak in any active sense, yet pointed entirely toward growth: the quiet beginning of the next ascent toward Sprouting and Prime.
In a chart
An element at Conceived reads as very faint but newly returning — latent potential rather than usable strength. It is a weak placement in the present, but one oriented toward growth rather than decline. This describes the element's state, not conception, pregnancy, or any event in the person's life.
Worked example
Yang Wood (甲) is at Conceived in You (酉): Wood's new seed forming quietly in mid-autumn, far from its season but already reconceived. The yin stems run the cycle in reverse.
Cross-system reference
| System | Closest archetype | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Zi Wei Dou Shu | Also a Zi Wei star — 胎 in the 長生十二神 (the twelve life-stage stars), placed by the 五行局 | Zi Wei runs the identical twelve-stage cycle as its 長生十二神 star series, dropped onto the palaces according to the chart's element class (五行局). 胎 is the same-named Zi Wei star — read there as a palace's phase-strength, not a Bazi element's qi. Both are strength-phase readings; neither is a life-event forecast. |
| Western astrology | A loose analogy to a planet whose influence is latent, not yet expressed | Not an equivalence: the nearest Western idea is strength-by-position, but the 'reconceived seed' phase of the Life Stages has no direct counterpart. |
Cross-system anchors are a loose heuristic, not a literal equivalence. The Twelve Life Stages track the strength of an element's qi around the branch cycle — a mechanism Western astrology does not share; the nearest idea is a planet's strength by position (dignity / debility).
Reading this descriptively
Conceived describes the strength of an element's energy at a branch — newly reforming as latent potential — not conception, pregnancy, or any life event. It is read for what it says about that element, and the same stage plays out very differently across different charts.
